I’ve really been diving into simplifying in big ways this year. Once I got mostly decluttered, I realized I really needed some storage solutions to help keep me organized and prevent me from buying items that I already have one of. This wooden desk organizer was a perfect project to help tackle the chaos that is always spread out in my workspace while also displaying the things I need and use in a lovely way!
-Birch Plywood – 1 piece of the following sizes:
1/4″ x 12′ x 24″
1/8″ x 12″ x 24″
-Heavy Duty Super Glue
-Use the scroll saw to cut the 1/4″ piece down to 19″ tall.
-From the small piece left over, measure and cut out a 6″ x 2″ piece and a 4″ x 2″ piece.
-Cut three 2.5″ pieces from the dowel.
-Measure and mark the pieces you will need to make the pockets on the 1/8″ piece of wood.
One 3″ x 5″ piece
Two 1.5″ x 5″ pieces
One 1.5″ x 2.75″ piece
One 1.5″ x 2″ piece
Two .75″ x 2″ pieces
Letters & Notebook Pocket
One 5″ x 6″ piece
Two 5″ x 1.5″ pieces
One 5.75″ x 1.5″ piece
-Use the scroll saw to cut out all of the pieces. Be sure to be precise in the cutting or they will not line up correctly.
-Use the heavy duty super glue to glue each of the pockets together.
-Once the pockets are dry and sturdy, attach the pockets, the dowels and the mini shelves (cut in the second step) using the super glue. (**It helps to lay out your pieces before you start gluing.)
-Let it dry according to directions.
-Use masking tape to mark off the area for the chalkboard and use chalkboard paint to fill in the space.
-Once everything is dry, you can leave it on your desk top or attach it to the wall and fill it with all your favorite desk essentials!
All of the measurements are just guidelines, you can change the sizes, add more pockets, add more paint… anything you want! Have fun and get organized!
